On February 8th 2024, Honourable Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndhlovu, by then Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife but now Minister of Industry and Commerce, officially commissioned the Community Rhino Conservation Initiative. He was accompanied by senior parks officials Arthur Musakwa and Samson Chibaya, as well as other Ministry representatives.
Honourable N.M. Ndhlovu was delighted to spend time with Headman Mlevu, who has championed community-based conservation in this area, as well as Chief Mathupula, Councillor Khumalo and other Tsholotsho Rural District Council members, and a number of traditional village leaders. Representatives from IFAW (the International Fund for Animal Welfare) and EMA (Environmental Management Agency) were also present to celebrate the event and CRCI.
The Minister was undeniably impressed by what we have achieved and is excited about expanding the Initiative. We look forward to doing so with his support!
The ceremony finished with a dedication prayer and acknowledging the number of important efforts from partners that have gone behind this Initiative to make it a success so far.
